Decorative Chess Set
A Decorative Chess Set For Any Occasion
There have been many different versions of the traditional chess set over the years. Astute fans of popular culture will remember the old TV commercials of the Civil War Chess set. Now, while most ‘as seen on TV’ type products are generally remembered with, at best, laughter, and at worst, with scorn (the Pocket Fisherman has not aged fondly in men’s minds), but the Civil War decorative chess set is usually remembered with slightly more respect. This is probably because the pieces cost in the neighborhood of thirty-nine dollars EACH. Quite the expensive decorative chess set!
The volume of different types of decorative chess set pieces is fairly impressive. There have been chess sets made up from familiar figures from World War One and Two; the Roman Empire; The Cold War; and even science fiction. Although, honestly, some of the science fiction pieces are pretty ridiculous as times. But, all these different decorative chess set variations are a testament to the amazing popularity of chess and the core rules of the game and the core strategies appeal to many different groups of people.
However, the use of figures representing the middle ages may not appeal to everyone. Sometimes drawing from different eras and periods in human history to create a decorative chess set can attract individuals who may not have had an interest in the game in its original version. And, on the flipside, there are chess aficionados that desire to have every different version of every chess sets every made. Perhaps they even have the very rare chess sets based on Marvel Comics characters.
There is a decorative chess set to fit a multitude of tastes and sensibilities. In fact, new chess sets are conceptualized everyday and many more unique and creative variations will continue to see the light of everyday so it is doubtful collectors will ever run out of sets to collect any time soon.
